Welcome to Kids Are Our Future!
K.A.O.F's programs are designed to capture the mind, body, and heart of each child. We instill productive and healthy goals for each individual child, while providing a proactive atmosphere. Our goal is to enhance the lives of our children, and create a positive and healthy Northern Nevada community.
K.A.O.F. is dedicated to enriching the youth of Northern Nevada by providing affordable education, life management skills, and athletic opportunities. More specifically our efforts are geared towards athletic training, educational development, and mental health.
Why do we do it?
- One million American students drop out of school every year. That is 1 every 9 seconds.
- Of the youth who attend college, more than 40% are doing remedial work.
- U.S. students place 24th in math, behind countries such as Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.
- The average African-American and Latino 12th grader reads at the same level as the average Caucasian 7th grader.
- 16% of children ages 6-19 are overweight or obese. This number has tripled since 1980.
- Among boys, the highest prevalence of obesity is observed in the Latin sector.
- Among girls, the highest prevalence of obesity is observed in African-Americans.
- National guidelines recommend 150 minutes of physical activity each week for elementary age children and 225 minutes for older children, of all the 50 states only Illinois has a statewide requirement for daily physical education. NO OTHER STATES REQUIRE P.E.
- An estimated two-thirds of all youth with mental health problems do not receive the help they need.
